Nora Farah embodies artistic excellence between Oslo and the European capitals. This acclaimed designer has built her reputation over 25 years in haute couture and made-to-measure. A graduate of ESMOD, she began her career as a fashion designer in Paris, where she worked with legends such as Azzedine Alaïa and with prestigious labels like Nancel and Franck Olivier.
Her clientele attests to her renown: the Norwegian royal family, artists and showbiz stars, businesswomen, political figures and other influential female figures. She also develops ready-to-wear collections, distributed in 45 boutiques across Norway.
The Move Towards Fine Art
A New Creative Dimension
For the past 4 years, Nora Farah has been experimenting with her techniques on other surfaces. She has produced several works of fine art: paintings and female torsos in a combination of surprising materials. Lace inlaid into various materials, worked silk... Each creation reveals her technical mastery.
The thread running through her work lies in a constant search for new forms of expression. She draws on the techniques she has mastered over 25 years in the trade, notably draping. She works the fabric to create relief effects and blends it all with plaster that she shapes and imprints.
A Unique Artistic World
These standout works give her creations new dimensions. She assembles unique elements into new forms: exclusive fabrics, lace, singular materials, plaster harmonised through a choice of matching colours.
Through the sensuality and femininity of her work, she challenges the codes that shape women’s daily lives. Beauty expresses itself in all its facets. She opens the doors of her creative world to us.
Her exhibition at the Galerie du Colombier, on rue Saint-Honoré in Paris (21–25 September 2017), met with an enthusiastic reception. She now plans to exhibit in several other major European and international capitals.

Cosmopolitan Origins
“I was born in Norway, in Oslo. I lived in Tunis for 17 years. I studied at ESMOD in Paris, where I worked with Azzedine Alaïa, Franck Olivier, Serge Nancel and several other designers. I currently live in Norway, in Oslo. I am married and have two children.”
An Early Calling
Nora discovered her calling very early on: “From my earliest childhood, I was always drawn to transforming existing outfits and creating new garments.”
She recalls: “I would go into my mother’s wardrobe and borrow a flared skirt with a classic cut, gathered at the waist with an elastic band. I found it very unfashionable. So I would turn it inside out, use the waistband elastic, which I placed above the knees, and use a wide belt to hold the loose part around my waist. That way I ended up with an original skirt.”
This constant search for the “discreet touch that makes all the difference” already revealed her future talent. “Ever since I was little, I knew what I wanted to become.”
Professional Rise
The Norwegian Beginnings
On her return to Oslo, Nora worked for Voice of Europe, a major Norwegian ready-to-wear company. Soon, the desire to create her own collections took hold. In 1998, the Nora Farah company came into being.
She develops two ready-to-wear collections a year, sold in 45 Norwegian boutiques. Alongside this, she sets up a couture workshop specialising in evening gowns, wedding dresses and outfits for official events.
Royal Recognition
Her label rose to prominence when one of her dresses was worn by the partner of Prince Felipe (now King of Spain) at the wedding of the Crown Prince of Norway. This much-noticed appearance drew the attention of Spanish, French and German magazines.
Today, Nora has “the privilege of being among the people who dress Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway.”
The Dual Creative Role
Balancing Couture and Fine Art
“A very great satisfaction: being able to keep making dresses for my clients and also to withdraw and work on my own pieces brings me a great deal of balance.”
This creative solitude allows her to recharge: “Being a little cut off from the world, taking time for myself, allows me to find myself again and to be even more creative. Taking my time, experimenting and giving free rein to my imagination... it is priceless.”
An Embraced Multicultural Identity
Nora lays claim to her cultural richness: “Being of dual nationality and the upbringing I received have given me an added richness. It taught me to respect differences and to adapt more easily to situations.”
She states: “I have always had my own identity: a strong personality, like any self-respecting Tunisian woman! I never wanted to be put in a mould. I feel like a citizen of the world.”
Sources of Inspiration and Artistic Vision
Inspiration from Within
Asked about her sources of inspiration, Nora answers without hesitation: “Myself... My experiences in the world of fashion, the search for detail, for innovative ideas, for new techniques, combining fashion and art in its different facets.”
She explains her approach: “Every artist stands out from the ordinary and is an influence. It all depends on the eye of the beholder. It is endless... The brain absorbs day after day. It can be tiring at times. Being creative also means observing and absorbing.”
A New, Committed Collection
Her new works are evolving: “My new pieces are a little more colourful than the earlier ones. A vision of the future of Tunisia that worries me a great deal and that I bring out on certain canvases. A longing for more gentleness, a more balanced, less materialistic world.”
Woman at the Heart of the Art
Celebrating Femininity
“Woman takes up a great deal of space in my work. I have great respect for woman. It is she who brings life. She is at once strong and fragile. She is an eternal contrast. I seek out the truth that lies in every woman.”
This philosophy also guides her approach to fashion: “The feel of the fabric matters... Its suppleness. The way it holds. The colour suited to the client, the sensual design, the feminine cuts. The finishing touch of every dress must be unique.”
Handling Criticism
Nora takes a balanced approach to feedback: “It is important to be open to how others see things and to accept constructive criticism. But you must not fall into the trap of negativity.”
A Vision for the Tunisian Industry
Tunisian Creative Potential
“Tunisians are artists. I often compare them to Italians; they have that certain something and know how to make people dream. We need to make the products even better known and show them to the wider public, rather than limiting our efforts to craftsmanship.”
Advice to Future Designers
For those who wish to embrace this career, Nora shares her view: “It is a very beautiful profession that demands a great deal of oneself. You have to love what you do and accept living with your work every single day.”
A Message of Inspiration
A Dream Already Fulfilled
Asked about her dreams, Nora expresses her gratitude: “I already feel very privileged to work every day at what I love doing. Being creative brings me a lot of happiness. I have fulfilled my dream.”
A Universal Message
Her closing words ring out like a manifesto: “Always be proud to be a woman. Accept yourself as you are. Be determined, know how to include others, share and be generous.”
Nora Farah embodies this generation of artists who transcend cultural and artistic borders. Between haute couture and fine art, between Oslo and Tunis, she weaves a world in which femininity expresses itself in all its complexity and beauty. Her journey inspires, and her artistic vision continues to evolve, driven by a constant quest for authenticity and innovation.
