Does treating yourself with magnets strike you as funny? And yet magnet therapy is an effective alternative worth trying!
More and more patients are turning to this gentle, painless therapy, which has been in use since antiquity.
What exactly is magnet therapy?
Magnet therapy is a therapy that uses magnets and magnetised plates to treat the body.
This healing technique was recognised in 1987 by the WHO, the World Health Organization.
The virtues of magnets are wide-ranging and make it possible to treat many health problems:
- chronic conditions such as arthritis
- back pain
- troubles linked to diabetes
- difficulties with wound healing
- the aftermath of fractures
- sight and hearing problems
- stress
- migraines
- insomnia
- incontinence
Magnets are also excellent anti-inflammatories.
Electromagnetic fields aid healing by stimulating the way cells function.
How does it work?
The magnets used in magnet therapy are static. Made of iron, steel or an alloy, magnets come in many sizes and price ranges.
It is therefore easy to find the one that suits you and to wear it as jewellery, in a bandage, in a garment...
Magnets can be worn on the body or directly on the painful area itself.
Most often, magnets are placed on an acupuncture point to aid healing and reduce the sensation of pain.
Ideal for back pain
Magnet therapy is ideal for women who suffer from back pain and neck pain, brought on above all by handbags (often too heavy) always carried on the same side, but also by very (too) high heels.
Magnet therapy does indeed correct posture.
What happens during a magnet therapy session?
This therapy takes place at a magnet therapist's practice.
After a few questions about your age, height, weight and medical history, the practitioner places a first magnet on the skin, choosing the north pole or the south pole of the magnet depending on the pain.
The magnet's electromagnetic fields then stimulate blood circulation, improve and rebalance the energies.
Since magnets have different electromagnetic strengths, the doctor will play with those strengths to rebalance the body.
Generally, you leave the consultation with a magnet suited to your condition, which you will wear for anything from a few days to a few weeks, depending on the pain.
