Back to Basics: Pink on the Cheeks

Pink blush gives skin a fresh, natural complexion. La Sultane reveals its symbolism and shares her tips for a “fresh-air” glow.

What's the inspiration behind this look?

Rosy cheeks for a healthy, girl-next-door look, “almost” bare-faced: this is the “fresh-air” complexion, fresh and translucent, as if after a walk in the countryside. A natural look that takes some crafting.

What does the colour pink symbolise?

Pink is said to represent good health, skin care, fine materials and naturalness.

How do you apply this blush for a natural effect?

  1. Start with a fluid foundation or a simple base (“primer”).
  2. With a powder brush, sweep a little bronzer in circular motions over the whole cheekbone.
  3. Without picking up more product, lightly brush over the forehead, nose and chin.
  4. Blend a few touches of pink blush onto the “apple of the cheek” (the top of the cheekbone).
  5. Add depth to the eyes by redefining the eyelid crease with a contouring pencil, blended out for an almost invisible result.

Frequently asked questions

Where on the face should pink blush be applied?
On the “apple of the cheek”, meaning the top of the cheekbone, using light circular motions.
Do you need a base before applying blush?
Yes, a fluid foundation or a simple base (“primer”) gives better hold and a more natural finish.
How do you get a “fresh-air” effect rather than a made-up look?
By blending the contouring pencil well and applying blush in small touches, without overdoing it.
